Abstract： Dehn function, motivated by the isoperimetric function in Riemannian geometry, is a tool to study finitely presented groups. Dehn functions can detect various properties of groups, in particular, they provide upper bounds on the complexity of the word problem for finitely presented groups. In this talk, I will give a survey on Dehn functions and discuss some classical results. Then I will focus on my currnet work about the Dehn functions of subgroups of right-angled Artin groups, especially on Bestvina-Brady groups. This talk is accessible to graduate students.
